Member Highlight: Ann Buker

Ann works as a Medical Assistant at Kaiser Permanente, but you can also catch her behind a camera. IF you’ve ever attended one of our youth climbing competitions, you’ve probably seen her snapping thousands of pictures. This week, get to know Ann’s climbing history.

We can all thank Ann’s husband Ben for bringing her to the Source : “Ben actually introduced me to climbing in 2001. My first time ever climbing was at Rocky Butte.”

“My favorite crag would be Smith Rock, but honestly, anytime we get out and climb with friends is always the best.”

“Climbing has helped push me out of my comfort zone. I have a terrible fear of heights and climbing has helped with that. I still find leading out doors to be scary and I don’t know if I will ever overcome that, but I am happy with mine and Ben’s climbing routine. He leads and I clean (if it’s not too hard).”

“My only piece of advice for new climbers is to find a mentor, someone that can help guide you. Climbing can be dangerous, but if you have a great mentor, the memories are very rewarding.”
